That and make sure it’s on the latest firmware, but the app will prompt you to do that when you first connect it. To really make this speaker shine, you have to tweak the EQ in the mobile app. The anker soundcore motion boom is a stellar piece of kit. If you’re looking for a rugged travel speaker that gets loud and aren’t super particular with quality, then I would recommend this as a good option. The build quality is definitely there at that price though. For the $200 price tag I knew there was something better out there. This is perhaps from listening to it at higher volumes for prolonged periods of time, but I think that any speaker advertised as being a robust for parties and gatherings should be able to handle this without failure or degradation. I took it to a couple camping trips and beach bonfires and it wasn’t until after that it seemed like the sound wasn’t what it used to be. I thought that maybe it just needs to be “broken in” a little bit or something since that’s sometimes the case with speakers/headphones but alas this ended up not being the case. Out of the gate it had mediocre bass I found. To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the sound quality of this speaker though. I wish all Bluetooth speakers had this capability. When I was on a hike with it buried at the bottom of my bag but wanted to listen to some tunes, I could just open my phone and turn the speaker on without having to dig it out. I really liked this feature because I could connect to the speaker when it was turned off and not have to interface with the speaker at all. In the UE boom app, you have the ability to remotely turn it on and off. Not a fan of the micro USB charge port through. I was able to get about 5 hours at I’d say 80-90% volume. The battery life was about as advertised. You can really toss this speaker around without having to worry about it. That and being super robust with no exposed passive radiators or vulnerable components. Really practical with its cylindrical shape and being able to tote it around anywhere and fit into smaller spaces with its reasonable size all while still able to produce good sound (more on that later). The UE megaboom was by far my favorite form factor out of any speaker. Between the form factor and $500 price tag, I didn’t end up keeping this speaker. Not that I ever planned on bringing it on a paddle board or anything though. I think IP65 or whatever the rating is for just splash resistant. I really liked this speaker and it’s sound, but the form factor wasn’t my favorite with how it was a big rectangle. The “adaptable EQ” or whatever it’s called is a cool feature where it’s supposed to change the eq depending on the space the speaker is placed in. It really shines when you put it in a corner or up against a wall. The bass is balanced throughout the volume range and isn’t overpowering at higher volumes. A fantastic speaker that has great sound at both low volumes and high volumes. I hope this helps people struggling on what speaker to pick since there’s a lot of hype behind some speakers more than others in this thread it seems. I’ll go into detail about each one and my thoughts on them and why or why not they were for me or not. Here is a list of the speakers I’ve gone through in trying to find the right one for me. I listed to a wide variety of music but tend to listen to electronic music a majority of the time, so I like my sound to have sufficient low end while maintaining clarity in the mids and highs I’m pretty particular with my audio (self-proclaimed audiophile) and have been looking to find something that satiates my desires in a Bluetooth speaker. Instead of buying one of the JBL boomboxes or something along those lines that costs around $500 or so, I can get two different speakers of different sizes that I can use for different occasions. I’ve been testing out at lot of speakers so I figure I might as well document my findings while I’m at it. So I wanted to make a post about my experience in the pursuit of the best Bluetooth speaker that doesn’t break the bank.
